July 21, 2012 at 8am to July 22, 2012 at 4pm
SEAS THE DAY On October 16, 2010, at 9am, Marine Cleanup Initiative, Inc, will lead recreational boaters and their families from north and south on the Indian River to converge in the Fort Pierce Turning Basin at Noon for the World’s Largest Demonstration for clean waterways. Marinas along the route will serve as rallying points for boaters wishing to participate from greater distances than can be traveled in three hours. Boaters from the area passed will also join in. All of these boaters will display their Seas the Day Flotilla burgees and join in this massive movement. Once in the Turning Basin, officials from the Guinness Book of World Records will confirm our numbers, a fly-over photograph will be taken and we shall all sound our horns.
The water of Florida is its’ most important natural resource and it is rapidly being ruined by dumping and littering. Let this display of concern be heard across the nation. We boaters of Florida will not stand for this any longer. As this celebration ends, our concern and interest does not. We will Seas the Day.
Well-wishers and non-boaters will line the shores and bridges as a sign of support. Together, after the armada arrives and is photographed, all citizens and boaters concerned will head to on of two afternoon events featuring speakers, food, drink and entertainment.
The Admiral’s Roast will be held for all at Harbor Branch/FAU Campus as a fundraiser, raffle and silent auction along with entertainment from 1pm thru 7pm. The Captain’s Cookout will be held at Marine Square Park, where a pig roast, fundraiser, raffle, beer, entertainment and refreshments will be offered from 2pm until 10pm.
MCII anticipates up to 2000 boats will participate in the Flotilla and over 4,000 people will turn out for this event. Watch the paper or our website at www.marinecleanupinitiativeinc.org for more information and how to get your special packages. These packages will be available through the website. There are three separate events: the Seas the Day Flotilla, the Admirals Roast at HBOI, and the Captain’s Cookout at Marina Square Park. Do not miss out!!!
This event will provide the funds for Marine Cleanup Initiative, Inc. to continue the work started 9 years ago. Fill the Basin!!! Cover the bridges with well-wishers. Using our waterways as a trash bin must stop. OUT OF SIGHT DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT.
Stand up and be counted. Join our Flotilla. Come to our cookout. Walk around our booths, listen to our feature speakers, buy your beer mugs, buy a few T-shirts to support our efforts and enjoy the great food and entertainment….And we do mean GREAT.
DETAILS
SEAS THE DAY FLOTILLA

COST- $25.00 PER BOAT
WHAT THIS GETS YOU? – Your boat will be included in the world’s largest water demonstration for clean waterways and th elargest such event anywhere. You will receive a discount of other events of the day through your participation.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? – Orgainze your marina, boating club, friends and neighbors and get them to join in as well. Boats will start out heading up and down the river so they can converge in the Fort Pierce Turning Basin at noon. As the flotilla moves, local groups will keep track via VHS radio and join in along the route. The flotilla will grow as if goes. News helecopters will track the event and report from the air. BoatPic.com will fly over and record your vessel in the event so you can purchase photos later.
WHY SHOULD WE? – Marine Cleanup Initiative, Inc. has been removing debris form the Indian River for nine years and last year applied for NOAA funding. Part of this grant was to receive matching funds. Local municipalities report they have no funds to help any project important or not, so MCII needs to raise $100,000 to continue the efforts to clean up this 96 square miles of the lagoon and the two inlets form the fishing line, casting nets, bottles, cans, anchors, chain, rope, tires, batteries and larger debris left over from the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005. There are also over 200 boats still missing form those storms and soon, if not already, the fluids will be leaking out and polluting the waterways. MCII needs to keep working to get this job done. In that effort, we have devised this flotilla and the outdoor events later in the day to raise the money needed while entertaining the public, getting them involved in a fun day of water activities and educating everone about this organization and others involved in the ecology of our area
GUINNESS WORLD’S RECORD CERTIFICATION
NOON – 1PM
Once all the boats are situated in the turning basin, arial photographs will be taken to be sent to Guinness to certify this event as a world’s record. Once this is done, boaters who signed up and received their burgees will be sent certificates showing they participated in this record breaking event. Then the flotilla will break up into other events. Local marinas will offer slips at discounts to overnight stay. Or you may anchor out and ride the water taxis to one of the two events planned.
ADMIRAL’S ROAST AT HARBOR BRANCH/FAU
1PM – 7PM
By boat, ticket holders to this event wil travel back up the river to the entrance of Harbor Branch Marina where they will find a designated anchorage location. Captain’s will be waiting to taxi participants into the otherwise closed marina. Once there, ticket holders will be treated to a pig roast, drinks and entertainment from ACUTE AFFLICTION and from the TV series TREME: The Chris Duarte Group and John Mooney. There be featured speakers from Harbor Branch, raffles and a silent auction. Local environmental groups will have booths and discuss exactly what they do and how you can help. This event will be held at the Johnson Center both indoors and outdoors. And Tickets are limited and $100 per person. This will be a very unique experience. You may also travel by car, if you wish and parking will be close to the Center.
CAPTAIN’S COOKOUT AT MARINA SQUARE PARK
2PM – 10PM
Another event will be held in downtown Fort Pierce at the Marina Square Park after the Farmers Market dissolves. Boaters may make arrangements to dock at local marinas or anchor at either the Harbortown anchorage or the former floating dock area of City Marina and then be water taxied over to City Marina using channel 16. Or, you may travel by car. There will be a boat show of local manufacturers, booths offering information about groups involved with environmental issues and programs. Food and drinks will be offered using tickets purchased at the booths around the site. Kids entertainment will be offered in the section set aside for them. There will be a stage where the following bands will play: The Odds, Out on Bail, Voodoo Band, Category 5, River Dog, and Acute Affliction who will perform throughout the day. A beer booth will be set up to help beat the heat. As this is a fundraiser Marine Cleanup Initiative, Inc., will raise money from sales of beer, burgees, T-shirts and donations at booths and information tents. And a $20 donation is requested.
All proceeds will go to continue to remove the debris from the inlets and waterways, remove derelict vessels, restore habitat and educate the public on the need to curb littering and illegal dumping in our waterways and advance the quality and quantity of our aqautic creatures.
